Disciplined Investment Process
At Deighan Associates, the investment process has two major components: a global review of firm holdings, and a client-specific review of individual portfolios.
Global Investment Review
We monitor the economy, company and industry news, and the securities markets daily. This daily monitoring allows us to quickly investigate all security specific news.
Additionally, we subject all equity securities to more in-depth scrutiny by continuously reevaluating security fundamentals. This global process allows us to spot and act quickly upon areas of concern or opportunity.
Client Portfolio Reviews
We review your portfolio on a quarterly basis using a carefully designed multi-layered process. First, we make certain that the asset allocation (the proportion of stocks, bonds, and cash) stated in your Investment Policy Statement is properly reflected in your portfolio. This is an important part of the investment process since studies have shown that client satisfaction with investment results is more closely tied to the maintenance of the agreed upon asset allocation than any other aspect of the investment process including security selection.
Next, your portfolio is reviewed in light of changes that we think should be made to either industry weightings or individual securities. Finally, we consider issues that are specific to you, such as tax sensitivity, social screens, or other instructions as we weigh security changes for your portfolio. This multi-layered process involves at least two investment managers familiar with your objectives.
The foregoing is a time intensive process, but we are committed to it. In fact, we think this process saves time because it helps us to avoid pitfalls and reactive behavior in favor of proactive solutions.
